Excellent sound quality September 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We had a video monitor that we'd purchased with air points but its wireless connection was prone to terrible interference, meaning you could only use it without sound. This monitor has clear sound (we're in east london and do not experience any interference problems as others have), the parent unit is convenient to tote around and works well in the garden. The torch is a nice feature. Talkback is handy for the early evening feed where I'm in the nursery and other half is in the kitchen, but I drop one star for making the talk button too easy to hit - I'm terrified I'll accidentally hit it and wake the baby... The lights that indicate sound level are a good touch, so that if you're using the parent unit in a noisy kitchen you can still see if there are stirrings from The Beast. Temperature reading is useful, I notice one person has found it inaccurate but I think if you establish a baseline this will then tell you if you've got a sudden rise or fall. Haven't used the lullabies or MP3 function - we have a CD player in the nursery for that. NB first timers - would advise AGAINST video monitors - they make you hover too much!!
After trying three different units, I give up! Very poor quality/unreliable. September 19, 2008 The temperature monitor didn't work on the first monitor. Not terribly important, but having spent all that money, I wantd a unit that worked.
Although the first replacement unit supplied would remain connected, the speaker would "switch off" intermittently (as if it was muted, but it wasn't muted). We only discovered this whem we checked on our baby and found him crying whilst the monitor remained silent.
The second replacement (third unit!) is suffering the same fault as the last.
Unfortunately, my faith in the BT brand is exhausted and I'll look elsewhere.
Full compliments to Amazon whose returns process couldn't be easier. Good job really :-)
Reassuringly expensive ;) August 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before buying this monitor I did a fair bit of research to check that the high price was justified. After using the BT 150 for a few days both me and the wife (and newborn baby!) are impressed & give it 5 stars. It's well built, looks decent, has great sound quality and has a bunch of features not found on other models (e.g. Aux input for MP3 players).
The talk-back feature is especially useful if my wife is doing the feeding upstairs and I want to ask her whether she'd like a cup of tea from the living room.
Audio doesn't seem to get any interference from the wifi point, nor from the wireless DECT phone.. and I don't think it's producing interference either.
The nightlight is a little weak; I'd prefer it to be a bit brighter, but that's only a small criticism. We didn't go for the a model including a pressure-sensitive mat due to reports of false alarms and forgetting to turn it off before picking up the baby :-o
Both units can be battery powered.
Overall it's a well designed bit of kit which should suit everyone who's willing to spend that little bit extra.
DISAPPOINTING August 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Initially had to take this monitor back as the two monitors (parent and baby) were failing to link to one another. Got a replacement and neither the sound alert or the vibrate alert work. Tried everything and was recommended to return it ! I am going to and this time will buy a different product that hopefully works.
Just works as it should - brilliant August 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this item about 4 months ago after giving up on the Tomy Platinum after having two Tomy units that broke over 18 months (if you're deciding between this and the Tomy do read my review on that item).
I was a little reluctant to buy a product that BT have stuck their name on as the BT brand just means 'mediocre' to me but I'm glad I overcame my irrational brand prejudice as this item is just BRILLIANT. It's solid, the features and product design are well thought out and the battery life is phenomenal, which is such a huge help when you're travelling with your baby monitor. A small point but indicative of the attention to detail is that the baby light is a warm yellow rather than a cold blue as on the Tomy (which was nasty and felt like one of those UV fly traps left on in shops over night).
It's probably got more features than I need but hardly a negative particularly given it's well priced. After 18 months of being disappointed and annoyed by the Tomy I'm just delighted with this BT product. It's cured me of my brand prejudice to the extent that I've just bought a BT internet radio.
