Why be ripped off by apple, buy the best buy this. September 5, 2008 Superb, have no gripes at all, sound quality is great, drag and drop so easy, no gimmicks it just plays music and plays it well. Very good price as well.
leaves the IPod for dead August 30, 2008 I wanted an player to replace my elderly ATMC which has given sterling service and the Ipod nano that I had which lasted 4 weeks before failing. Looked at Creative, sandisk and Ipods (various). The Sony wins hands down for overall ease of use - it's just so intuitive and user friendly. the menus are simple and loading music from Media player 11 is simple - straightforward drag and drop. The player is tiny but the sound and video quality are excellent - both are much better than the opposition and Sony's supplied headphones are excellent - better than the sennheiser cx300 I have used previously with crystal clear sound. And finally, the battery life is excellent - have got 26 hrs on the first charge and it's supposed to improve after the first few charges. Buy one and you will not be disappointed - better still buy the 8 gb version
Outstanding player, excellent value August 27, 2008 I bought this to replace a 2nd generation ipod nano which was annoying the hell out of me. I'm so glad I picked this.
Put simply, it's the best mp3 player I've ever used, far outshining the ipod nano for both usability, features, battery life and, crucially, sound quality.
I tested this against the nano when it arrived, using the same source tracks and the same headphones (Sennheiser PX100s). This player totally blew the nano out of the water sound wise. Clear resounding bass, lovely precise mids and highs that weren't scratchy or harsh. I heard things on hear I'd never noticed on the nano. Add to that the far superior battery life - at least double what I was getting on the nano - and it's the outright winner.
Also, the software flexibility is higher. I've used this with WMP11, Media Monkey and Winamp and all of them pick it up automatically without problems. It's been a bit of a wrench pulling away from itunes, which I do like, but I guess that's the deal with Apple, it's all or nothing. They want to lock you in and they've got some good software to tempt you though the door.
The last thing I should mention are the controls. The nano wheel is great for skimming through playlists quickly but I used to find it tricky sometimes to hit the one I want first time when I've just "wheeled" through several hundred tracks. The Sony on the other hand has a very precise and easy to use D-pad style control which I personally prefer.
I was really happy I got this and had no regrets at all about giving away the nano afterwards!
Awesome sound - Great value August 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my wife to replace the old style iPod nano which she managed to destroy by dunking it in a glass of Vimto! Anyway, I digress...The sound quality is fantastic, the video playback is crisp and the earbud headphones supplied are really good quality and very comfortable. (I have bought some Sony ones to replace the crappy white ones that came with my iPod). I would thoroughly recommend this mp3 player
excellent MP3 July 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have both ipod classic and ipod nano, to be frank none of the ipods come near to walkman MWZA816B, the sound is superb and of very high qaulity, the earbud which come with it is excellent, I even tried it with pro-headphone, without noticing any fault in music qaulity. stick to sony's earphones and you will be better of. if you have small library of albums the 816 is the right set for you. I hope you will enjoy your unit the way I enjoy mine.
