Good for first 3 years July 10, 2008 I bought this Dyson in 2001 and paid about 220. It has been fairly reliable during this time but considering that it is only used on average once a week for half an hour does not equate to an awful lot of use. When I first purchased the machine I was very impressed with its cleaning abilities. The amount of dust that it picks up is staggering, I thought my carpets were clean until I saw what was in the dust container. The hose was also very long which enabled me to get to the top of the stairs. The initial things I didn't like was that its hard to get into corners but to be fair this is a problem for all uprights. It is also fairly heavy which is not a problem for me but would be for the elderly. It is also very noisy. All went well for a couple of years until it started to make a high pitched whining noise which was diagnosed by the helpline as being the brush bar. They sent me a new one under warranty so all was well again. A word of warning - DO NOT use this vacuum to pick up any sort of decorating dust or building dust or rubble. Fine dust gets clogged in the cyclone and the only cure is to buy a new cyclone. Dyson kindly sent me a new cyclone under warranty. We have just had the builders in and the cyclone is again blocked but I will have to pay this time for a new one. Dyson say that I have been using it for the wrong type of dust! The hose split and I had to buy a new one but unfortunately the new hose does not click back into place correctly. The filter housing opens by itself, when pushing back the handle for commencement of cleaning there is a huge click and the brush bar has worn out again. On contacting the Dyson helpline they said that I was going over the edge of the carpet while vacuuming and wearing out the brush bar. Are they .psychic? How do they know? The brush bar is only guaranteed for a year so I would have to buy another. This is clearly a design issue. Dyson said that they would send someone out for 60 who would overhaul the machine but I could buy a new one for 140. The dyson helpline is very good but it needs to be for this product. No matter what problems you describe they always have an answer snd its never the machines fault. All new dysons are guaranteed for 5 years so some would say that is long enough. I say I'm going to buy a Henry!
CLEANER CARPET July 2, 2008 Brilliant machine, we had a DC01 previously and thought that was good but the Dc07 knocks spot off that, great suction. On the down side its a little heavy but we can live with that. Once again the service from Amazon was excellent .ordered on friday got it by the next friday, considering I paid by cheque I dont think that was bad,and it was free delivery.
V. Disappointed May 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When I first bought my DC07 I thought it was marvellous. Excellent suction power. However, after regular use I found it to be very heavy to manoeuvre, especialy carrying it upstairs.
Although I have kept the machine clean there were several weak points. The first of which was the flexible hose which split and a replacement cost 20.00. Secondly, the pull switch to empty the dust canister broke. Then, and probably the most dangerous, the machine came tumbling down the stairs whilst using the hose and gave me a nasty blow to the shoulder. By that stage I was viewing this cleaner as the enemy! The final death knell came yesterday when the motor blew up and black plasticy smoke emanated from it. Afraid that I will not be purchasing another Dyson as I consider them to be overrated - buying a VAX today.
PS: The machine was only five years old - would expect longer service for the price.
Buyer Beware! This vacuum cleaner Sucks! May 7, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This model, the Dyson DC07, has a common fault and one that is not freely admitted by Dyson. After a while it starts cutting out. That is to say it runs for 3 - 5 minutes then cuts out, then you have to wait for 25 minutes to use it again - for another 3 minutes. This is because of a safety thermocouple that trips the current if the motor gets too hot.
This is actually a real problem. A quick search on the internet will reveal plenty of owners in the UK and the US who have had this annoying fault and will never buy a Dyson again. There are several causes. The hose and tubes can get blocked, the cyclone itself gets blocked and the filters can get blocked. Now all these are true. If the DC07 can't suck properly the motor will overheat. So I fully cleaned my cyclone, cleared all blockages, bought another lifetime filter(?) and cleaned the filter under the dust collector and it sucked beautifully Then it cut out again! So the problem lies elswhere.
The thing is this is a common fault. It's not just my DC07. So there's a real chance that you'll only get a couple of years good work out of it before you have to spend some real cash!
When I called Dyson the polite chap I spoke to acted surprised even though it was a common fault and suggested a replacement thermocouple. Cost of repair? 65 plus VAT. Now that really does suck. My Dyson is not old. It's been treated with great care and is as clean as a whistle. My 25 year old cylinder Hoover with bags did better than this.
Don't take my word for it - Google 'Dyson DC07 cuts out' and see for yourself.
Overpriced and unreliable April 27, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Our cleaner arrived broken and was never really trouble free - a number of faults grew developed over the years until the motor went. We replaced with another cheaper make. Don't believe all the hype, the product simply isn't good enough.
