Very good software August 26, 2008 I have used a number of video editing packages; this is the best. Importantly, it is very stable. It is also very flexible and accepts a number of different formats in one project. It also comes bundled with the very competant DVD achitect software. The only drawback is that it is not the most straight forward software to use so perhaps one for those with some previous editing experience or who enjoy working things out.
Brilliant piece of software!!! August 19, 2008 I bought this software from Amazon after purchasing my high definition Canon camcorder (also from Amazon). I had recently had a new computer built (and my old one upgraded). As an absolute beginner I read through dozens of posts on various video editing forums and decided to follow the recommendations of experienced video editors, such as having a huge second hard drive fitted so as not to save video files on the same drive as the operating system. Video editing is incredibly resource hungry, not being a techie but having experienced my previous computers slowing down (and crashing) over time because of all the rubbish that had accumulated on them, I also decided NOT to fill the computer up with my video games and downloads, I kept them for the older, upgraded PC.
I installed Sony Vegas and plugged in my camcorder, the capture was perfect, no dropped frames, no computer freezing or crashing. To those people who criticise the software, blame your system, not the software.
Sony Vegas and DVD architect are brilliant. For a beginner, the 'how to' function on the help tab gets you started, without having to plough your way through the more complicated aspects of the software, this comes later with more experience. A particular favourite of mine is the ability to capture stills from the video footage to tag on the end of the finished video, separated by one of Sony's excellent transitions, and overlaid with music. Far better than posed photographs and you've always got the photos on your hard drive if you want to print them later.
For a product of this standard, the new reduced price is an absolute giveaway. I have no hesitation at all in recommending Sony Vegas.
So easy to use! June 17, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was looking for a new piece of vid editing software for my skydiving films. Had previously tried products from ULEAD and CYBERLINK and wasn't totally satisfied. Vegas Movie Studio is perfect for making professional looking movies. When you first open the program it looks very confusing compared to some video editing suits but Sony have got it so right with the "show me how" button giving brief but informative information on how to achieve what you want to do. I sat down and had a play for a couple of hours and in my mind is the most user friendly video editing suit I have ever used! I would highly recommend to both experienced and amateur video editors.

excellent, easy to use editing May 26, 2008 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
There are a lot of inexpensive video editing packages around, it seems: many are easy to use as is Sony Vegas, some are unstable, unlike this package and all are to some extent limited. I use and have used a range of editing software for pc and mac and this can't actually compete with the likes of avid, but you wouldn't buy Sony Vegas for that purpose. I bought it because I purchased an SD card Camera and wanted to edit home videos on my home laptop. It is always daunting to have to learn how to use a new editing application, but the learning curve on Sony Vegas is not too steep and I was surprised with one thing in particular - namely the precision with which you can cut and position a clip. It seems a small point, but this feature is the most important element to editing because it means you can create a hard cut without having to play around with transitions to hide the edges, so to speak. The application has worked seemlessly for me, without crashes or hanging and no consequential loss of work. For this price, for what it does, it is excellent and out-performs many editing applications that cost more but are, nevertheless, unstable. My advice is to get a copy; you won't be dissappointed.
